Best Things to Do in Cabo San Lucas β€” From Sandos Finisterra

The complete guide to activities and excursions in Cabo San Lucas. Whale watching, fishing, sunset sailing, ATV adventures, snorkeling, day trips, and more β€” from the doorstep of Sandos Finisterra.

Best Things to Do in Cabo San Lucas

Sandos Finisterra sits at Land’s End β€” literally where the Pacific Ocean crashes into the Sea of Cortez, right next to the famous Arch of Cabo San Lucas. You can see it from the resort.

Cabo is a completely different experience from the Riviera Maya. Instead of jungle cenotes and Mayan ruins, you get desert-meets-ocean landscapes, world-class fishing, whale watching, and Baja’s rugged beauty. The vibe is more laid-back, the terrain is dramatic, and the marine life is extraordinary.

Here’s everything you can do from Sandos Finisterra β€” organized by activity, with Seek & Go booking options where available.

Whale Watching (December – April)

This is the signature Cabo experience during winter months. Humpback whales and gray whales migrate to Los Cabos to breed and calve in the warm waters.

What to expect: 2–2.5 hour boat tours departing from the Cabo San Lucas Marina (a short walk from Finisterra). Boats head past the Arch into open water. On good days β€” and most days during peak season are good β€” you’ll see whales breaching, tail slapping, and spouting. Some tours use hydrophones so you can hear whale songs underwater.

Peak season: January through March. Sightings are nearly guaranteed. Most operators offer a free return trip if you don’t see whales.

Book through: Seek & Go desk at Sandos Finisterra.

Sport Fishing

Cabo San Lucas is the “Marlin Capital of the World.” The convergence of Pacific and Sea of Cortez currents creates some of the richest fishing grounds on the planet.

What you can catch: Marlin (blue, black, striped) peaks June through November. Yellowfin tuna is year-round with peak summer months. Dorado (mahi-mahi) peaks May through October. Wahoo peaks October through January. Roosterfish is an inshore target year-round.

Options: Shared pangas (small boats) for budget trips, private sportfishing yachts for the full experience. Half-day and full-day charters available.

What happens to your catch: Catch-and-release is encouraged for marlin. Dorado, tuna, and wahoo can be taken to local restaurants and they’ll prepare it for your dinner.

Book through: Seek & Go desk at Sandos Finisterra.

ATV & RZR Adventures at MigriΓ±o Beach

The Baja desert landscape is made for off-road exploration, and MigriΓ±o Beach β€” about 45 minutes west of Cabo β€” is the premier adventure corridor.

Razor (RZR) Adventure β€” from $290 USD

Side-by-side off-road vehicles through desert terrain, dry riverbeds, and MigriΓ±o Beach. You drive. Roll cage, seatbelts, helmets provided. High-speed desert and beach riding. This is the premium off-road experience.

ATV Quad Adventure β€” from $160 USD

Single or double ATVs through the same MigriΓ±o terrain. More accessible than the RZR, more hands-on than a UTV. About 2–3 hours of riding.

Both include transportation from your Cabo hotel. You will get dusty. That’s the point.

Book through: Seek & Go desk at Sandos Finisterra.

Sunset Sailing

The Pacific sunset from Cabo is legendary β€” and watching it from a catamaran with a drink in your hand is the way to do it.

Options range from:

All depart from the Cabo San Lucas Marina, which is walkable from Sandos Finisterra.

Book through: Seek & Go desk at Sandos Finisterra.

Land’s End & The Arch

You can see the Arch from your resort, but getting up close is a different experience entirely.

Glass-bottom boat tour β€” Short trips from the marina to the Arch, Lover’s Beach, and the sea lion colony. You can see underwater through the glass bottom of the boat.

Water taxi to Lover’s Beach β€” Drop-off service to Playa del Amor, the only swimmable beach at Land’s End. One side faces the calm Sea of Cortez; the other faces the Pacific (look, don’t swim). Water taxis pick you up when you’re ready.

Kayak or paddleboard β€” Paddle from Medano Beach to the Arch. Rentals available or join a guided tour.

Snorkeling & Diving

The Sea of Cortez side of Cabo has calmer water and excellent marine life. Jacques Cousteau called it “the world’s aquarium.”

Pelican Rock β€” Near Land’s End, accessible by boat. Tropical fish, sea fans, and sometimes sea lions swim right alongside you.

Chileno Bay β€” Protected marine sanctuary about 15 minutes from Cabo. Clear water, easy snorkeling right from the beach.

Santa Maria Bay β€” Horseshoe-shaped bay with calm water and coral formations.

Cabo Pulmo β€” A full-day trip about 2 hours north, but extraordinary. One of the most successful marine reserves in the world β€” massive schools of fish, sea lions, manta rays. Worth the drive.

Diving β€” Dive sites include sand falls (underwater waterfalls of sand cascading over ledges), sea lion colonies at Land’s End, and the occasional hammerhead shark in deeper water.

Camel Rides

Yes, camels in Cabo. Desert tours on camelback through the Baja landscape, often combined with beach time, tequila tasting, and a traditional Mexican lunch. Unusual, memorable, and a completely different way to see the terrain.

Zip Lines

Costa Azul Zip Line β€” Seven lines through a canyon with ocean views. Some run over 1,000 feet long. Includes rappelling and suspension bridges. Half-day adventure with transportation and equipment provided.

Day Trips

Todos Santos β€” A “Pueblo MΓ‘gico” (Magic Town) about an hour north. Art galleries, craft shops, excellent restaurants, and the Hotel California (yes, that one β€” or so they claim). Great half-day or full-day escape from the resort corridor.

San JosΓ© del Cabo β€” The quieter, more traditional town on the eastern end of the Cabo corridor. Thursday evening art walks, historic downtown with colonial architecture, and some of the best restaurants in Los Cabos.

La Paz β€” The capital of Baja California Sur, about 2 hours north. Swimming with whale sharks (October through April), sea lion snorkeling at EspΓritu Santo Island, and a beautiful waterfront promenade (malecΓ³n). Full-day trip but absolutely worth it.
