Isla Mujeres Day Trip from Cancun
Isla Mujeres is the easy “get off the Hotel Zone” day from Sandos Cancun. Ferry is 20–40 minutes. The island is 7 km long. You can see the good beach, eat, and be back for dinner.
Sandos Cancun is 18+. This day trip fits that: Playa Norte, a golf cart, ceviche, no waterpark with kids’ slides. Families at Playacar or Caracol can still go; they just start farther south (CUN is the same airport, the Hotel Zone is not next door).

How you get there
Ultramar / passenger ferry from Puerto Juárez or Punta Sam. Cheaper, more local, 35–45 minutes. Taxi from Sandos Cancun to the ferry dock.
Hotel Zone catamaran. Faster, drinks on board, more money. Fine if you want the boat to be the day.
Seek & Go island tour. Pickup at the resort, boat, snorkel or Garrafón, lunch, back. Best after a presentation morning when you do not want to navigate docks.
Do this on day 2 or 3. Day 1 is check-in and the 90–120 minute Royal Elite preview.
What is actually worth the day
Playa Norte. Shallow, clear, the beach people mean. Eat here. Do not rush to the south tip first.
Golf cart. $60–$80 for the day is the usual ask. The island is too hot to walk end to end after a resort breakfast.
Downtown (Centro). Small. Shops, fish, a real street. Lunch is better here than on the ferry dock.
Garrafón / south reefs. Only if you want to snorkel and pay a park ticket. Skip it if Playa Norte is the goal. The wildlife on Isla Mujeres post covers turtles and the sanctuary.
Punta Sur / sculpture garden. A lookout. Nice photos. Not a half day.
Skip trying to “do the whole island and Tulum.” That is two different trips.
What it costs (ballpark, 2026)
Ferry is cheap. Cart is the real spend. Park tickets and a sit-down lunch add up faster than the boat. A Seek & Go packaged day costs more and includes the parts you would piece together anyway (pickup, gear, a clock).
Promo guests already have one-way airport pickup in the SandosPromo stay. The island is not included. Return to CUN at the end of the trip is still Seek & Go, $75–$100 range, same as other Cancun exits.
From Sandos Cancun vs Playacar
Sandos Cancun is in the Hotel Zone. Short taxi to the ferry. Playacar and Caracol are ~45–55 minutes from CUN and farther from Puerto Juárez. From those two, an Isla day is a longer haul. Chichén or a cenote may be the better one-day leave.
Cancun 18+ guests who want nightlife after: ferry back by late afternoon, then Hotel Zone clubs. Do not plan Coco Bongo and a 6 a.m. ferry the same night as the presentation.
