Every meal at every Sandos resort is included in your all-inclusive package. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks — all of it. But “all-inclusive” does not mean “all the same.” Each resort has a distinct lineup of restaurants, bars, and dining experiences, and the difference between a standard all-inclusive stay and a Royal Elite membership is significant enough that it deserves its own section.
This guide covers every restaurant at all four Sandos Mexico properties, explains what is included at each package level, and gives you the information you need to plan your meals before you arrive.
How All-Inclusive Dining Works at Sandos
The basics are simple. Every meal is included in your stay. Buffet restaurants are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with no reservation required — walk in, sit down, eat. À la carte restaurants are specialty dining venues that typically serve dinner only and require a reservation (make them early — ideally on your day of arrival for your entire stay).
Drinks are included at all bars and restaurants. No tipping is required, though it is always appreciated. There is a dress code for à la carte dinner: smart casual. No swimwear, no tank tops, no flip-flops. Collared shirts are not strictly required at most venues, but long pants and closed shoes are expected at the finer restaurants.
Room service is included and underutilized. Most guests forget it exists. If you want breakfast in bed or a late-night snack delivered to your room, it is part of the package.
The Retail vs. Royal Elite Dining Difference
This is the most important thing to understand about dining at Sandos, and it is the single biggest reason people decide to join the vacation club after their promotional stay.
Standard All-Inclusive (Your Promotional Stay)
Your promotional package includes buffet breakfast and lunch at any buffet restaurant, plus one à la carte dinner reservation per night. The drink menu covers well liquor, domestic beer, and house wine. This is a solid all-inclusive package — the food is good, the variety is real, and you will not go hungry.
Royal Elite Members
Royal Elite members get à la carte dining for every meal — breakfast, lunch, and dinner — at all restaurants, including member-exclusive venues. No buffet required (though the buffets are still available if you want them). The drink menu upgrades to premium top-shelf liquor at all bars. Reservations get priority booking with the best tables. Room service gets priority treatment.
The resort-specific Royal Elite dining perks make the difference even clearer. At Sandos Cancún, Royal Elite members get à la carte breakfast at St. Trop with ocean views. At Sandos Caracol, members have access to Los Lirios for à la carte breakfast and lunch. At Sandos Playacar, the exclusive Emiliano’s serves Royal Elite breakfast, and Tortuga Beach Restaurant opens for oceanfront lunch and dinner. At Sandos Finisterra, the concierge arranges member dining experiences.
The bottom line: your promotional stay gives you a great taste of the resort. Royal Elite membership transforms how you eat for every trip forward. For the full breakdown, read our Royal Elite Benefits page.
Sandos Finisterra — Cabo San Lucas
Sandos Finisterra sits on the cliffs above Cabo San Lucas harbor, and the dining reflects the dramatic setting. The restaurant lineup focuses on quality over quantity, with venues positioned to take advantage of the Pacific Ocean and marina views.
Restaurants
Don Diego — The main buffet restaurant. International cuisine with rotating themes — Mexican night, Italian night, seafood night, and so on. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is your go-to for a casual, no-reservation meal at any time of day.
Emiliano’s — Italian. Handmade pasta, risotto, wood-fired pizza, Italian wines. One of the most popular à la carte options at Finisterra. Reserve early — this one fills up fast.
Agave — Steakhouse. Grilled meats, traditional Mexican dishes, and premium tequila selections. The flavors are bold and the portions are generous.
Tortuga — Beachfront dining. Seafood and grilled specialties with your feet practically in the sand. The lunch here — fresh ceviche, grilled fish tacos, cold beer — is one of the best meals on property.
Poolside Pizzeria — Exactly what it sounds like. Pizza, snacks, and light bites without leaving the pool area.
Cupcake Cafe & Deli — Coffee, pastries, sandwiches, and cupcakes. Good for a mid-morning snack or an afternoon pick-me-up.
Bars
Whale Watchers — The signature bar at Finisterra. Perched on the cliff overlooking the Pacific, this is the spot for sunset cocktails. During whale season (December–April), you can watch humpback whales breach while sipping your drink. Read more about that in our Whale Watching in Los Cabos guide.
Roca Lounge — The lobby lounge bar. Live music some evenings, craft cocktails, comfortable seating.
La Palapa — Swim-up bar at the main pool. Cold drinks without leaving the water.
Plaza Finisterra — Open-air bar in the resort plaza.
The Stone’s Club — Intimate bar with a nightclub atmosphere later in the evening.

Sandos Cancún — Adults Only
Sandos Cancún is the adults-only property in the Cancún Hotel Zone. The dining here reflects that — it is quieter, more refined, and every restaurant benefits from the adult-only atmosphere. No highchairs, no kids’ menus, no rushing.
Restaurants
Zango — The international buffet. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner with themed stations. The quality at Zango is notably high for a buffet — the adults-only format means the kitchen can focus on more sophisticated preparations.
Seasons — Molecular gastronomy steakhouse. This is the fine-dining flagship at Cancún. Creative presentations, premium cuts, and techniques you do not expect at an all-inclusive. Reserve this one for a special night.
Gaijin — Teppanyaki and sushi. The teppanyaki show is dinner and entertainment combined — the chef cooks in front of you with the usual knife tricks and flame work. The sushi bar is separate and excellent.
Frattini’s — Italian. Classic pastas, seafood, Italian wines. Elegant atmosphere with ocean-adjacent seating.
St. Trop — Poolside grill during the day, but the real draw is for Royal Elite members who get à la carte breakfast here with Caribbean Sea views. For standard guests, this is a solid lunch spot — burgers, grilled seafood, salads.
Bars
Bar One — Lobby bar with cocktails and live music. The social hub of the resort after dinner.
Beachside Bar — Evening entertainment, ocean breeze, feet in the sand.
Premium Club Bar — Panoramic views, quieter atmosphere, craft cocktails.

Sandos Caracol — Playa del Carmen
Sandos Caracol is the eco-resort. It has a nature-forward identity — iguanas wander the grounds, coatis show up at breakfast, and the cenote on property is a real natural formation. The restaurant lineup is the most diverse of any Sandos resort, with both buffet and à la carte options covering a wide range of cuisines.
Buffet Restaurants
La Laguna — The main international buffet. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner with rotating themes and live cooking stations.
La Toscana — Italian-themed buffet. Pasta, pizza, antipasti, and Italian desserts.
Las Máscaras — Mexican buffet under a traditional palapa roof. Tacos, enchiladas, sopes, mole, fresh salsas. Authentic flavors, not tourist-Mexican.
À la Carte Restaurants
Los Lirios — Steakhouse. Grilled meats, seafood, premium preparations. Royal Elite members can access this for breakfast and lunch — one of the exclusive member perks.
Fogo de Brazil — Brazilian grill. Rodízio-style service where servers bring skewered meats to your table continuously until you tell them to stop. Come hungry.
La Riviera — Mediterranean cuisine. Seafood-forward with fresh ingredients and lighter preparations.
El Templo — Asian teppanyaki. Similar to Gaijin at Cancún — chef cooks in front of you, hibachi-style entertainment.
Nido Taquería — Mexican street-food style. Tacos, quesadillas, guacamole made to order. Casual, fast, and surprisingly good.
Salvia — Healthy snacks and light bites. Smoothies, salads, fresh juices. Good for a post-pool refresher.
Bars
Sandos Caracol has approximately 10 bars spread across the property — lobby bar, theater bar, sports bar, beach bar, multiple pool bars, and a swim-up bar. You will not have to walk far for a drink.

Sandos Playacar — Playa del Carmen
Sandos Playacar is the largest Sandos property in the Riviera Maya, and it has the most restaurants to match. The resort sits inside the gated Playacar community, steps from the beach and a short walk from Playa del Carmen’s famous 5th Avenue.
À la Carte Restaurants
El Gaucho — Steakhouse. Argentine-style grilled meats with chimichurri, premium cuts, and a solid wine selection.
Le Gourmet — French cuisine. Adults only (18+). The most upscale à la carte option at Playacar. Multi-course dinners, refined service, romantic atmosphere.
Riviera Maya — Mexican cuisine. Regional dishes from across Mexico — Oaxacan mole, Yucatecan cochinita pibil, Puebla-style chiles en nogada.
IL Piemonte — International cuisine with Italian influences. Pasta, seafood, creative entrées.
Playacar has 7 à la carte restaurants total — the above are the headliners. The remaining venues rotate or feature specialty menus.
Royal Elite exclusives: Emiliano’s opens for Royal Elite members as an à la carte breakfast venue. Tortuga Beach Restaurant serves members oceanfront lunch and dinner. These are among the most sought-after dining experiences in the Sandos network.
Bars
El Agave Blue — Beach bar. Cold drinks, ocean views, sand between your toes.
La Bambola — Sports bar and crêperie. Watch the game, eat a crêpe. Unexpected combination that works.
Riviera Lobby Bar — Classic lobby bar. Cocktails, live music on select nights.
La Plaza — Outdoor bar in the resort’s central plaza.
La Misión — Nightclub. 18+ only, open until 2 AM. If you want to dance after dinner without leaving the resort, this is the spot.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of All-Inclusive Dining
Book à la carte reservations on day one. Walk to the concierge desk as soon as you check in and book your dinner reservations for every night of your stay. The best restaurants (Seasons at Cancún, Le Gourmet at Playacar, Emiliano’s at Finisterra) fill up fast. Do not wait.
Try every restaurant. You have already paid for everything. Do not default to the buffet every night because it is easy. Each à la carte restaurant offers a different experience, and some will surprise you.
Lunch at the beach grill is underrated. The beachside and poolside lunch options are usually the most relaxed meal of the day. Fresh seafood, cold beer, warm sand. Nobody is in a hurry.
Room service is included. Breakfast in bed. Late-night snacks. Post-pool room delivery. It is part of your package and most guests never use it.
Kids eat free at family resorts. Playacar, Caracol, and Finisterra are family-friendly properties. Children’s menus are available at all restaurants, and kids eat as part of the all-inclusive package.
Dress code matters. You will be turned away from à la carte dinner in swimwear or flip-flops. Pack one or two smart-casual outfits for evening dining. For men: long pants and closed-toe shoes. For women: a sundress or nice top works.
Tom’s Personal Take
I spent 14 nights across Sandos Caracol and Sandos Playacar during my 2021 trip. It was post-COVID at roughly 50% capacity, and the dining experience was exceptional — partly because of the food itself, and partly because the kitchen staff was not overwhelmed by full-capacity crowds.
The buffets were stocked and fresh. The à la carte restaurants had immediate availability. The staff had time to be attentive. I ate my way through both resorts and documented a lot of it on video.
At full capacity, the experience is still good — but you need to plan ahead. Book your restaurants early. Go to dinner at off-peak times (6 PM or 8:30 PM instead of 7 PM). Hit the buffet for lunch when everyone else is at the pool.
The food across all Sandos resorts is legitimately good. It is not a five-star standalone restaurant — it is an all-inclusive resort, and the value is in the fact that everything is included. But the quality and variety are well above what most people expect from an all-inclusive.
