If you’ve spent any time researching timeshare presentation deals for holiday travel, you’ve probably run into the same wall repeatedly: “Dates not available for the selected period.” Holiday blackouts are the default in this industry — Christmas, New Year’s, Easter, and spring break are typically closed to promotional inventory across most programs.

Sandos Resorts is one of the exceptions. Here’s why that matters and exactly how their holiday availability works.

Why Most Programs Black Out Holidays

The mechanics behind a timeshare promotion are straightforward: the resort allocates a block of rooms to the promotional program, fills those rooms with guests who attend the presentation, and generates sales appointments in exchange for the discounted stay. The value exchange works cleanly.

During peak holiday periods, retail demand is high enough that resorts don’t need promotional fills to keep occupancy up. A room that can sell at $600/night retail during Christmas week doesn’t need to be discounted through a promotional program. So the promotional block gets closed — blackout applied, no exceptions.

Why Sandos Keeps the Holiday Window Open

The calculation Sandos has made is different. A guest staying at a Sandos property during Christmas week — already committed to a vacation mindset, surrounded by the full resort experience at its peak operational level — is a meaningful presentation opportunity. The guest is relaxed, the resort is showing at its best, and the emotional case for ownership is as strong as it gets.

Keeping promotional inventory available during the holiday window is a deliberate business decision. It costs Sandos some retail rate revenue on those rooms, but the quality of the presentation audience during peak season offsets it. The guest gets the holiday week at promotional pricing. The resort gets a high-quality presentation appointment. Both sides get something real.

What “No Blackout” Actually Means in Practice

No blackout doesn’t mean unlimited availability. It means the promotional inventory block remains open during the holiday window — but that block is smaller than off-peak months, and it fills.

During a normal off-season month, Sandos might have a larger promotional inventory block and more flexibility on dates. During Christmas week, the promotional block is tighter and date flexibility is reduced. You may not get December 24 check-in if you inquire in late November. You might get December 23 or December 26 with better lead time.

The practical implication: no blackout means you can book, but early inquiry matters more during holiday periods than any other time of year.

The financial case for a promotional holiday stay is strongest precisely because retail rates are highest. A Sandos property at Christmas retail can run $400–$700+ per night depending on destination and room category. For a five-night stay, a couple could easily be looking at $2,500–$4,000 at retail.

The promotional rate — in exchange for the 90-minute presentation — cuts that number significantly. The exact promotional pricing is confirmed when you inquire for your specific dates and destination.
